UGC NET June 2026 Re-Exam Begins Today: English and Commerce Papers Scheduled for September 9

New Delhi, September 9, 2026: The UGC NET June 2026 re-examination begins today, September 9, with candidates appearing for the English and Commerce papers. The re-examination has been ordered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) following an expert review that identified multiple issues in the question papers of three subjects.

The Sociology paper will be conducted tomorrow, September 10. NTA has already issued admit cards for the re-examination and has advised candidates to carefully check their examination details before leaving for their centres.

UGC NET June 2026 Re-Exam Schedule

The re-examination is being conducted over two days:

DateSubjectExamination Time
September 9, 2026English9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon
September 9, 2026Commerce3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
September 10, 2026Sociology9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon

Candidates should follow the reporting time mentioned on their individual admit cards. NTA’s examination-day instructions advise candidates to reach the centre well before the examination begins to complete security checks and other formalities.

Why Is UGC NET Being Re-Conducted?

The NTA decided to re-conduct the three papers after receiving complaints regarding errors in the original question papers.

An expert committee constituted to examine the complaints reportedly identified factual, typographical, translation and language-related errors, along with repeated questions in the affected papers. The original UGC NET June 2026 examination was conducted between June 22 and 30 across multiple subjects.

The re-examination is therefore intended to provide affected candidates with another opportunity to take the examination under revised conditions.

Admit Card Already Released

NTA released the admit cards for the September 9 and 10 re-examinations earlier this month. Candidates can access their hall tickets through the official UGC NET website using their login credentials.

The official UGC-NET portal currently lists the re-examination admit card, advance city intimation information and the public notice concerning the re-conduct of the English, Commerce and Sociology papers.

Important Instructions for Candidates

Candidates appearing for the re-examination should keep the following points in mind:

  • Carry a printed copy of the admit card to the examination centre.
  • Carry the required valid photo identification document.
  • Check the examination centre address and reporting time before leaving.
  • Follow all instructions printed on the admit card and issued by NTA.
  • Avoid carrying prohibited items into the examination centre.
  • Reach the venue sufficiently early to complete frisking and registration formalities.

Candidates appearing in Delhi have been given an additional travel advisory because traffic restrictions and diversions associated with the BRICS Summit could cause delays on September 9 and 10. NTA has advised Delhi candidates to plan their routes in advance and leave early.

Delhi Candidates Advised to Plan Travel

The travel advisory is particularly important for candidates whose examination centres are located in Delhi. NTA has warned that traffic congestion and route restrictions may increase travel time.

Candidates should therefore check their route before starting their journey and keep sufficient time in hand to reach the centre. Missing the examination because of a delayed journey could have serious consequences.

UGC NET: Why the Examination Matters

The University Grants Commission–National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is conducted by NTA to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor appointments and certain PhD admission categories, depending on the candidate’s qualifying category.

The examination is conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode.

What Happens After the Re-Exam?

Candidates will have to wait for further NTA announcements regarding the evaluation and results of the re-conducted papers. The agency will issue subsequent updates through the official UGC NET portal.

Candidates should rely on official NTA notifications for information regarding the answer key, objection process, results and qualifying criteria.
