Over 84,000 Seats Open Under RTE Quota
The Government of Gujarat has officially commenced admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 2026–27 academic year from April 4. This year, more than 84,000 seats are available across private unaided schools in the state for students from economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups.
The initiative aims to ensure free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14 years, in line with the provisions of the RTE Act.
Revised Priority Criteria Introduced
Authorities have introduced changes to the priority criteria for admissions this year. Greater emphasis is being placed on applicants from marginalized communities, including children from low-income households, orphaned children, and those with special needs.
The revised framework seeks to improve inclusivity and ensure that the most deserving candidates benefit from the scheme.
Flexibility in Choosing School Shifts
In a significant move to ease the admission process, parents are now allowed to choose preferred school shifts—morning or afternoon—while submitting applications. This added flexibility is expected to help families manage logistical challenges such as transportation and work schedules.
Education officials believe this step will enhance convenience and improve overall participation in the RTE admission process.
Online Application Process Continues
The application process remains fully online, ensuring transparency and ease of access. Parents can submit applications through the official RTE portal by providing necessary documents such as income certificates, residence proof, and child identity details.
Authorities have urged applicants to carefully review eligibility criteria and submit accurate information to avoid disqualification.
Government Urges Timely Applications
The state education department has encouraged parents to apply early to avoid last-minute technical issues or delays. Awareness campaigns have also been launched to inform eligible families about the benefits and procedures of RTE admissions.
Officials remain optimistic that the updated policies and improved flexibility will lead to higher enrollment and better access to quality education for underprivileged children across Gujarat.
