New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has extended the application deadline for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026 following requests from aspirants citing technical issues and the need for additional preparation time. The decision aims to ensure wider participation and smooth completion of the registration process.
According to official updates, the last date for submitting the online application form has been extended by a few days beyond the original deadline. The correction window for modifying submitted forms will also remain open for a limited period after the new closing date, allowing candidates to rectify errors related to personal details, examination centres, and optional subjects.
Many candidates had reported server congestion and login difficulties during peak hours on the UPSC application portal. The extension has come as a relief to first-time applicants and those applying from remote regions with limited internet connectivity. Aspirants welcomed the move, stating that it would help reduce stress and ensure accurate form submission.
The UPSC CSE is conducted annually to recruit officers for prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). The examination is held in three stages — Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Personality Test (Interview). Lakhs of candidates are expected to apply for the 2026 cycle.

Candidates have also been cautioned against waiting until the final day to submit their forms to avoid last-minute technical issues.
While the application deadline has been extended, officials indicated that the overall examination calendar, including the preliminary exam date, is likely to remain unchanged. Any further revisions will be notified through the commission’s official communication channels.
With the extended timeline, coaching centres and student groups expect a surge in last-minute applications. Education experts believe the decision will lead to higher participation and more inclusive access to the country’s most competitive examination.
