Bengaluru, March 24, 2021: A team of doctors at Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road successfully treated a 30-year-old female with a rare wrist insatiability through a minimally invasive surgery performed using unique technology of nanoscope of 1.9 mm. The team was led by Dr. Raghu Nagaraj, Senior Consultant, Orthopedics and Bone & Joint Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road.
Nanoscope is the latest technology in arthroscopy which is of the size 1.9 mm with added advantages of true pin hole incisions or cuts, and can reach any corners of the joint without any damage to structures. A nano-operative arthroscopy system offers an incisionless patient experience and unlimited atraumatic access to joint spaces during diagnostic and surgical procedures. Arthroscopic procedures are minimally invasive surgical procedures that show faster recovery times and lower complication rates when compared to open surgery, and can also be performed on an outpatient basis.
The patient sustained injury to her right wrist due to a fall which resulted in ligament tear of her wrist joint, along with a clicking sound and instability of one of the forearm bones. An arthroscopic surgery was performed using nanoscope & adjusted ligament reconstruction was done.
“The biggest advantage of this nano technology is that the needle can reach any corner of the joint where a normal arthroscope wouldn’t reach sometimes, and we may end up damaging the structure or opening the joint. The NanoScope system provides an alternative to MRI imaging and second-look arthroscopy, and offers precise, direct image-guided visualization of injections. It works in the same way as medicines are injected into the joint, we can even put a scope into the joint to identify the damaged structures and openings,” said Dr. Raghu Nagaraj, Senior Consultant, Orthopedics and Bone & Joint Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road
