UGC Bans University in Rajasthan for not following necessary regulations
The University Grants Commission – UGC has recently banned Shri Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University (JJTU), located in Chudela, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, from enrolling Ph.D. students for the next five years. This decision comes after the university failed to comply with the provisions of the UGC Ph.D. Regulations and academic norms for the award of Ph.D. degrees.
A UGC standing committee found that JJTU did not follow the necessary regulations and norms, and despite being given an opportunity to explain their non-compliance, the responses provided by the university were deemed unsatisfactory. As a result, the committee recommended that JJTU be debarred from enrolling Ph.D. students from the academic year 2025-26 to 2029-30.
The UGC has directed the university to immediately discontinue enrolling Ph.D. students and has advised prospective students and parents not to take admission in the Ph.D. program offered by JJTU. The commission emphasized that Ph.D. degrees awarded by JJTU in the absence of UGC approval will not be recognized or valid for the purpose of higher education and employment.
This is the fourth Rajasthan-based private university to be barred by the UGC from admitting students to Ph.D. programs, following OPJS University (Churu), Sunrise University (Alwar), and Singhania University (Jhunjhunu).
