Supreme Court Announces Law Clerk Syllabus for 2025

New Delhi, January 20, 2025 – The Supreme Court of India has released the syllabus for the Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate (LC-RA) examination for 2025. This announcement comes as part of the recruitment drive for 90 positions on a short-term contractual basis. The selection process will be conducted in three stages: a multiple-choice question (MCQ) test, a subjective written examination, and an interview.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus Overview

Part I: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Topics Covered: Legal knowledge and comprehension, including the Constitution of India, CrPC, CPC, IPC, Indian Evidence Act, Contract Act, and recent legal developments.

Part II: Subjective Written Examination

  • Duration: 3.5 hours (including 30 minutes for reading time)
  • Total Marks: 300
  • Sections:
    • Case Synopsis (100 Marks): Summarize a legal case (e.g., Special Leave Petition or Writ Petition) in up to 750 words.
    • Legal Analysis (200 Marks): Analyze legal issues and the High Court’s decision.
    • General Studies (100 Marks): Current affairs, important events, and general awareness.

Part III: Interview

  • Duration: Varies
  • Focus: Assess overall suitability and knowledge of candidates.

Important Dates

  • Online Applications: January 14, 2025 – February 7, 2025.
  • Part I Exam: March 9, 2025.
  • Objections to Answer Key: March 10-11, 2025.

The Supreme Court encourages candidates to apply online through their official website, sci.gov.in, and pay the application fee of ₹500 via the UCO Bank Payment Gateway. The selection process aims to identify candidates with strong legal knowledge, analytical skills, and proficiency in legal research tools such as e-SCR, Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis, and Westlaw.
