SSC CGL 2025: Re-Exam Announced for Candidates Hit by Technical Glitches Amid Nationwide Disruptions

New Delhi, September 22, 2025 – In a significant move to address candidate concerns, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has confirmed a re-examination for thousands of aspirants affected by technical disruptions during the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) 2025 Tier-1 exam. The decision comes after a series of cancellations and glitches that have plagued the ongoing test, leaving over 20 lakh candidates anxious about their future. With the exam originally scheduled from September 12 to 26, SSC’s swift response aims to restore faith in the process.

Background: A Rocky Start for SSC CGL 2025

The SSC CGL 2025, one of India’s most competitive government recruitment exams, was initially postponed from August to September due to widespread technical issues in prior SSC tests like Selection Post Phase XIII. Over 28 lakh candidates registered for the 14,582 Group B and C vacancies across central government departments, including Income Tax, CBI, and Customs. The Tier-1 computer-based exam kicked off on September 12 but faced immediate hurdles, with 25 out of 2,435 planned shifts cancelled, impacting 7,705 candidates. These disruptions, including server crashes, login failures, and Aadhaar authentication mismatches, echoed problems from earlier exams, prompting protests under hashtags like #SSCMisManagement.

Technical Disruptions and Exam Cancellations

Reports of glitches surfaced early, with candidates experiencing repeated system restarts, question loading errors, and incomplete exam records. Specific cancellations hit multiple centres: on September 12 and 13 in Delhi-NCR, Gurugram, Jammu, Kanpur, and Ranchi; and on September 14 at Ideal International School in Ranchi (Jharkhand) and Digital Computer Education in Jammu. In total, around 55,000 candidates from preliminary reviews had corrupt records, though recent figures pinpoint 2,000 with verified issues. SSC clarified that only a fraction of shifts were affected nationwide, but the impact was profound for those who traveled long distances only to return empty-handed.

SSC’s Response: Launch of Feedback Portal

To tackle the outcry, SSC launched a dedicated Feedback Portal on September 11 via the candidate login on ssc.gov.in. Within a week, it garnered nearly 10,000 submissions, with about 2,000 detailing technical woes. Regional offices are verifying claims, emphasizing accuracy to prevent misuse. SSC Chairman Gopalakrishnan S assured in an official message that genuine cases would receive priority, stating, “The Commission has decided to offer another opportunity to such affected candidates.” This portal not only collects inputs but also enables rescheduling for 1,100 candidates with valid reasons, ensuring no prior attempts are counted against them.

Re-Exam Details: Dates and Eligibility

The re-exam for verified affected candidates is set for on or before September 26, 2025, aligning with the ongoing Tier-1 schedule. Admit cards for rescheduled shifts, including those for Delhi-NCR, Gurugram, and Jammu (now on September 24-26), will be released via registered emails and SMS. Centres like Kolkata, Jharkhand, Dehradun, Jhansi, and Ranchi await further updates. SSC has urged candidates to monitor ssc.gov.in regularly, promising new dates soon for remaining batches. Importantly, these re-tests won’t deduct from lifetime attempts, providing relief to stressed aspirants.

Broader Implications and SSC’s Reforms

This episode highlights ongoing challenges in SSC’s shift to Aadhaar-based authentication and AI-enhanced platforms, as mandated by the Supreme Court in 2018. The Commission has initiated a comprehensive review of its exam infrastructure, including vendor audits and tech upgrades, to prevent future mishaps. Protests at Jantar Mantar underscore demands for transparency, with student groups calling for accountability. As SSC balances fairness with scale—hosting exams at 227 centres—experts predict these reforms could streamline future cycles, but only time will tell if trust is fully regained.

Advice for Affected Candidates

Stay vigilant: Download admit cards promptly and prepare documents like Aadhaar. Avoid unverified social media rumours and rely on official channels. For those unaffected, the Tier-1 continues smoothly till September 26, with Tier-2 slated for later. SSC’s proactive stance is a step forward, but it reminds us of the high stakes in India’s job market. As one aspirant noted, “We’ve prepared for months; a fair shot is all we ask.” Updates will follow as the re-exam unfolds.
