Six Killed, Many Injured in Haryana School Bus Crash: School Faces Scrutiny for Holiday Operation

In a tragic incident, six children lost their lives and many others were injured when a school bus overturned in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district on April 11, 2024. The bus, which belonged to GL Public School, was carrying around 40 children when it lost control and overturned near Unhani village. The accident occurred despite the school being closed for the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus driver appeared to be driving at a high speed and may have been under the influence of alcohol. The driver, along with the school’s principal and another school official, has been arrested. The bus, whose fitness certificate had expired in 2018, was found to be in poor condition.

The incident has sparked outrage and scrutiny over the school’s decision to operate on a holiday. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine why the school was open and to hold those responsible accountable. The state Education Minister has issued a showcause notice to the school, demanding an explanation for its actions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured children. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected families.

This tragic event highlights the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations and accountability in school operations to prevent such incidents in the future.
