Hyderabad, January 28, 2025 – Schools in Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana are closed today for the Shab-e-Meraj festival. The state government has declared January 28 as a holiday for this significant occasion, although it is classified as an optional holiday1. This means not all educational institutions are closed, but many have chosen to observe the festival.
Shab-e-Meraj marks the night when Prophet Muhammad made his miraculous journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and ascended to heaven. During this journey, he received divine guidance from Allah and met various other prophets1.
In January, Telangana has declared a total of six holidays, including four general holidays and two optional ones. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has also announced a school holiday for Shab-e-Meraj from January 27 to January 281.
