New Delhi, April 27, 2025 – The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have announced the cancellation of the second shift of the RRB Junior Engineer (JE) Computer-Based Test (CBT) 2 examination conducted on April 22, 2025. The decision was made due to a technical error involving question repetition, which compromised the integrity of the exam process. The affected examination was part of the recruitment drive under CEN No. 03/2024 to fill 7,951 vacancies for posts including Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent, and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant.
According to an official notice released by the RRBs on April 26, 2025, the second shift of the CBT 2 exam suffered from a software glitch that resulted in duplicated questions, particularly in the non-technical section, with reports indicating that approximately 50 questions were identical to those in the first shift. This issue raised concerns among candidates about fairness and transparency, prompting the RRBs to cancel the second shift exam.
The RRB JE CBT 2 exam, conducted in two shifts on April 22, 2025, saw significant participation, with 20,792 candidates shortlisted for this stage. The cancellation of the second shift has caused inconvenience, particularly for candidates who traveled long distances to exam centers. Social media platforms, especially X, have been flooded with posts from frustrated candidates, some questioning the credibility of the first shift and alleging potential leaks or systemic issues.
The RRBs have assured candidates that a rescheduled date for the affected second shift will be announced soon on the official RRB website, rrbcdg.gov.in. The first shift, held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, remains unaffected, though some candidates have demanded a re-examination for both shifts due to concerns about server issues and fairness.
In addition to the cancellation, the RRBs have released the provisional answer key for the CBT 2 exam. Candidates can raise objections until April 30, 2025, at 11:55 PM, through the official RRB portal by logging in with their registration number and date of birth. An objection fee of INR 50 per question, plus applicable bank charges, is required.
The RRB JE recruitment process involves two stages of Computer-Based Tests (CBT 1 and CBT 2), followed by document verification and a medical examination. The cancellation has sparked discussions about the reliability of the examination system, with some candidates alleging negligence by the exam-conducting authorities.
The RRBs have urged candidates to rely solely on official updates and avoid misinformation from unofficial sources. For further details, candidates are advised to visit the official RRB website. The rescheduling of the second shift exam is expected to be communicated in the coming weeks, ensuring a fair opportunity for all affected candidates.
