New Delhi, July 21, 2025 – The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially commenced the NEET UG 2025 counselling process today, July 21, 2025, for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and B.Sc. Nursing courses across India. Eligible candidates who qualified in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2025, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 4, 2025, can now register for the first round of counselling through the official MCC website, mcc.nic.in.
The NEET UG 2025 counselling process is a critical step for over 12.36 lakh candidates competing for approximately 1.18 lakh MBBS seats, along with BDS and other allied medical seats in government, private, and deemed universities across the country. The counselling will cover the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, 100% seats at prestigious institutions like AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU, AMU, and ESIC, as well as institutional quota seats coordinated by MCC, including those at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) and ESIC’s Insured Person (IP) quota.
The MCC has outlined a detailed schedule for the first round of NEET UG 2025 counselling:
The counselling process will consist of four rounds—Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and a Stray Vacancy Round—with additional rounds possible to fill vacant seats.
Only candidates who have qualified for NEET UG 2025, with results declared on June 14, 2025, are eligible to participate. To register, candidates must:
Candidates are advised to carefully review all details before submission, as changes are not permitted post-submission.
For the counselling process, candidates must prepare the following documents for verification when reporting to allotted colleges:
For NRI/OCI candidates applying for deemed universities, additional documents like a sponsorship affidavit and relationship affidavit are required.
The NEET UG 2025 counselling is primarily conducted online, except for the final reporting stage, which requires physical presence at the allotted institute for document verification and admission confirmation. Seat allotment is based on the candidate’s All India Rank (AIR), preferences filled, reservation policies, and seat availability. Candidates can use tools like the NEET College Predictor to estimate potential college options based on their ranks.
The MCC has emphasized strict adherence to the schedule, with all participating institutes directed to treat weekends and holidays as working days to ensure timely completion. After Round 2, no seats will revert to state quotas, and fresh registrations are allowed for the Mop-up and Stray Vacancy rounds.
While MCC handles the 15% AIQ seats and seats at central/deemed universities, the remaining 85% state quota seats are managed by respective state authorities. For instance, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh have already begun their state counselling processes, with registration for UP NEET UG Counselling starting on July 18, 2025, at upneet.gov.in, and Karnataka’s option entry opening on July 17, 2025, at cetonline.karnataka.gov.in. Candidates are advised to check state-specific portals for localized procedures and domicile requirements.
With over 12 lakh candidates qualifying for NEET UG 2025, the competition for approximately 1.8 lakh total seats (including 1.18 lakh MBBS seats) is intense, with only about one in ten candidates likely to secure an MBBS seat. The MCC will soon release the seat matrix, detailing available seats across participating institutes, to aid candidates in making informed choices.
The MCC urges candidates to stay updated via the official website and ensure timely registration, accurate document submission, and careful choice filling to avoid cancellation. For additional guidance, candidates can refer to resources like the NEET Counselling 2025 article on mcc.nic.in or use college predictor tools to strategize their applications.
