Maharashtra HSC Class 12 Results 2025: 91.88% Pass, Girls Outshine Boys

Pune, May 5, 2025 – The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) announced the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Class 12 results for 2025 on May 5, marking a significant milestone for over 15 lakh students. The results, declared at 11:00 AM with the direct link activated at 1:00 PM, revealed an overall pass percentage of 91.88%, a slight decline from last year’s 93.37%. This year’s early result announcement, a first for the board, aligns with efforts to provide students ample time for higher education admissions and entrance exam preparations.

Key Highlights of the Results

  • Pass Percentage: The overall pass percentage stands at 91.88%, with 13,02,873 out of 14,17,969 students passing the exams. This marks a dip of 1.49 percentage points compared to 2024.

  • Gender Performance: Girls outperformed boys, securing a pass rate of 94.54%, while boys recorded 89.51%, a gap of 5.07%.

  • Stream-wise Performance:

    • Science: 97.35% pass rate, the highest among all streams.

    • Commerce: 92.68% pass rate, consistent with last year.

    • Arts: 80.52% pass rate, reflecting a significant drop of over 5 percentage points from 2024.

    • Vocational: 83.26% pass rate.

  • Division-wise Performance:

    • Konkan topped the nine divisions with an impressive 96.74% pass rate.

    • Latur recorded the lowest at 89.46%.

    • Mumbai, previously the lowest-performing division for three years, climbed to third place with a pass percentage of 92.93%.

  • Perfect Scores: Out of 10,496 junior colleges, 1,929 achieved a 100% pass rate, while 38 colleges reported a 0% pass rate.

Exam and Result Details

The HSC examinations were conducted from February 11 to March 11, 2025, earlier than the usual late February start, across nine divisional boards. This shift aimed to expedite result declarations and streamline the admission process for the 2025-26 academic year. Over 15 lakh students registered, including 8,10,348 boys, 6,94,652 girls, and 37 transgender students, alongside 42,388 repeaters, 36,133 private candidates, and 7,310 differently-abled students.

Despite stringent measures, the board reported 353 copy-cases, nearly identical to the 356 cases in 2024, indicating persistent challenges in maintaining exam integrity.

Accessing the Results

Students can access their provisional marksheets on official websites, including:

  • mahahsscboard.in

  • mahresult.nic.in

  • hscresult.mkcl.org

  • hscresult.mahahsscboard.in

  • digilocker.gov.in

To download results, students need their roll number and mother’s first name. Alternatively, results can be checked via SMS by typing MHHSC<Seat No.> and sending it to 57766. Hard copies of marksheets and pass certificates will be available at respective schools a few days after the announcement.

Post-Result Processes

  • Verification and Re-evaluation: Students can apply for verification of marks and re-evaluation through the board’s portal (verification.mh-hsc.ac.in) from May 6 to May 20, 2025. A photocopy of answer sheets, obtainable for an additional fee, is mandatory for re-evaluation requests.

  • Supplementary Exams: Students who failed in one or two subjects can apply for supplementary exams scheduled for June or July 2025. Applications open on July 5, 2025, via the board’s website.

  • Class Improvement Scheme: Students can reappear for exams within the next three attempts (June-July 2025, February-March 2026, and June-July 2026) to improve their grades.

Regional and Social Impact

The Konkan division’s consistent top performance underscores its academic excellence, while Mumbai’s rise to third place reflects improved educational efforts in the metropolitan region. However, the decline in the Arts stream pass percentage raises concerns about challenges in humanities education, prompting calls for targeted interventions.

Girls’ superior performance continues a long-standing trend, with educationists attributing it to focused study habits and resilience. “The gender gap highlights the need to support boys in achieving similar outcomes,” said Dr. Anita Patil, a Pune-based education consultant.

The early result declaration has been lauded by students and parents, as it allows more time for planning higher education. “This gives my daughter enough time to prepare for engineering entrance exams without rushing,” said Sanjay Deshmukh, a parent from Nagpur.

Challenges and Future Directions

The slight dip in the overall pass percentage and the persistence of copy-cases signal areas for improvement. The MSBSHSE has appointed counselors to assist students post-results, with contact details available on mahahsscboard.in. Additionally, the board’s decision to discontinue publishing toppers’ lists since 2020, citing academic pressure, has sparked mixed reactions. While some appreciate the focus on reducing competition, others argue it diminishes recognition for high achievers.

As Maharashtra transitions to incorporating CBSE curricula in state government schools, the 2025 HSC results serve as a benchmark for assessing the state’s educational landscape. With 91.88% of students clearing the exams, the focus now shifts to ensuring equitable access to higher education and addressing disparities across streams and divisions.

For more details, students are advised to visit the official MSBSHSE websites or contact their schools. The board will release further updates on supplementary exams and re-evaluation outcomes in the coming weeks.
