Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET)

Purpose

The KCET is an entrance exam conducted for admissions to undergraduate courses in engineering, technology, architecture, and other professional courses in Karnataka.

Conducting Authority

The exam is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed or be appearing for the 12th standard (or equivalent) examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects.
  • Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for KCET.
  • Residency: Candidates must be permanent residents of Karnataka.

Exam Schedule

  • Registration: Begins on January 23, 2025, and ends on February 21, 2025.
  • Exam Dates: The exam will be held on April 16 and 17, 2025, in two shifts: 10:30 AM to 11:50 AM and 2:30 PM to 3:50 PM.
  • Kannada Language Test: For outlying and bordering Kannadiga candidates, held on April 18, 2025.

Application Process

  1. Visit the Official Website: Go to the KEA website (cetonline.karnataka.gov.in).
  2. Register: Complete the registration process by entering the required details.
  3. Fill the Application Form: Fill out the KCET application form and upload scanned documents.
  4. Pay the Application Fee: Pay the fee using credit/debit cards or net banking.
  5. Submit the Form: Submit the application form and print a hard copy for future reference.

Application Fee

  • General Merit, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B Candidates: ₹500
  • Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) Candidates: ₹250
  • Candidates from Other States: ₹750
  • Foreign Candidates: ₹5,000

Exam Pattern

The KCET consists of four subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. Each paper carries 60 marks.

  • Mode: Pen-paper based examination
  • Sessions: The exam will be conducted in two sessions
    • Session 1: Mathematics (April 16, 2025)
    • Session 2: Physics and Chemistry (April 17, 2025)
  • Duration: Each session will be 1 hour 20 minutes (80 minutes)
  • Total Marks: Each subject carries 60 marks
  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (Objective)
  • Language: English and Kannada
