At just 17 years old, Kaamya Karthikeyan from Mumbai has made history by becoming the youngest female to complete the Seven Summits Challenge. This remarkable achievement involves scaling the highest peak on each of the seven continents1.
Kaamya’s journey began at the age of 7 with a trek in Uttarakhand, and her passion for mountaineering only grew from there. Over the years, she conquered Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mount Elbrus in Europe, Mount Kosciuszko in Australia, Mount Aconcagua in South America, Mount Denali in North America, and Mount Everest in Asia. Her final and most recent climb was Mount Vinson in Antarctica on December 24, 2025.
Accompanied by her father, Commander S Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy, Kaamya reached the summit of Mount Vinson, completing her Seven Summits Challenge. The Indian Navy and her school, Navy Children School, have both congratulated her on this incredible milestone2.
Kaamya’s achievement is not just a testament to her physical endurance and determination but also serves as an inspiration to young adventurers worldwide. In an interview, she shared, “Each peak taught me lessons about courage, endurance, and our planet’s beauty1. I hope my journey inspires others to pursue their passions.”
Kaamya’s next goal is to complete the Explorer’s Grand Slam, which includes reaching the North Pole and the South Pole along with climbing the Seven Summits. Her story is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with dedication and a dream.
