India and Brazil Sign 10 MoUs to Expand Strategic and Economic Cooperation

India and Brazil signed ten Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen cooperation in defence, MSMEs, health, critical minerals and technology. The agreements were finalised during the state visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva following talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Both leaders described the agreements as a major step toward deepening the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership and expanding collaboration across economic and strategic sectors.

Strategic Dialogue and Global Cooperation

Prime Minister Modi and President Lula held detailed discussions on regional and global issues, including multilateral cooperation and the role of developing nations in shaping global governance. They reaffirmed their commitment to working together in platforms such as BRICS and supporting the interests of the Global South.

The leaders stressed the need for reforms in international institutions and closer coordination on climate action, counter-terrorism and sustainable development.

Defence Cooperation Gets New Momentum

One of the key MoUs focuses on strengthening defence cooperation. Both countries agreed to expand collaboration in defence production, training and strategic dialogue. Officials said the agreement would help enhance interoperability and create opportunities for defence industry partnerships.

MSMEs and Green Economy Collaboration

India and Brazil signed an MoU to promote cooperation between micro, small and medium enterprises. The pact aims to improve market access, encourage technology sharing and support entrepreneurship in both countries.

The agreement also places emphasis on green transition, with a focus on sustainable business practices and access to green finance for MSMEs.

Partnership on Critical Minerals

A strategically important MoU covers cooperation in critical minerals and rare earth elements. These materials play a vital role in renewable energy, electronics and defence manufacturing.

Both sides agreed to work together on exploration, processing and supply chain resilience to reduce dependence on limited global suppliers and ensure long-term resource security.

Technology and Digital Innovation

The two countries agreed to strengthen collaboration in technology and digital public infrastructure. The MoUs promote cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, research and innovation ecosystems.

Officials said this partnership would support digital transformation and create new opportunities for startups and academic institutions.

Health and Pharmaceutical Cooperation

India and Brazil signed an agreement to improve cooperation in health regulation and pharmaceuticals. The MoU will enhance coordination between regulatory authorities, improve quality standards and support exchange of best practices in public health systems.

This step is expected to boost collaboration in medical research and affordable healthcare solutions.

Education, Culture and Knowledge Exchange

Additional MoUs focus on education, traditional knowledge systems and cultural exchange. These initiatives aim to strengthen people-to-people ties, promote academic collaboration and expand research partnerships between universities and institutions.

Trade and Economic Outlook

Alongside the MoUs, both leaders set an ambitious target to raise bilateral trade beyond USD 20 billion over the next five years. They encouraged businesses from both countries to explore new investment opportunities in energy, manufacturing, infrastructure and technology.

Brazil remains India’s largest trading partner in Latin America, and both sides expect the new agreements to further diversify trade and investment flows.

Strengthening a Strategic Partnership

The signing of ten MoUs reflects the growing depth of India-Brazil relations. By focusing on defence, minerals, technology, health and MSMEs, both countries aim to build resilient supply chains, support innovation and promote sustainable growth.

Leaders from both nations described the agreements as a roadmap for long-term cooperation and a signal of their shared vision for a stronger and more balanced global order.
