Indian Institute of Technology Joint Admission Test for Masters (IIT JAM)

Purpose

The IIT JAM is conducted to provide admissions to Master’s programs (M.Sc., M.Sc. (Tech.), MS (Research), M.Sc. – M.Tech. Dual Degree, Joint M.Sc. – Ph.D., M.Sc. – Ph.D. Dual Degree) at various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. The exam aims to assess the academic aptitude and skills of candidates to ensure a fair selection process for admissions.

Conducting Authority

The exam is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) that is designated as the organizing institute for that particular year. For 2025, IIT Roorkee is the organizing institute.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens.
  • Academic Qualification: Candidates should have completed or be appearing for the final examination of their qualifying degree (B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc./M.E./M.Tech.) in 2025.
  • No Age Restriction: There is no upper age limit for candidates.

  • Application Form Release: 3rd week of January 2025
  • Last Date to Submit Application: 4th week of January 2025
  • Correction Facility: 1st week of February 2025
  • Release of Admit Card: 2nd week of February 2025
  • IIT JAM Exam Date: 2nd February 2025 (Sunday)
  • Release of Answer Key: 2nd week of February 2025
  • IIT JAM Results: 4th week of February 2025

Application Process

  1. Online Application: Candidates need to fill out the online application form available on the official IIT JAM website.
  2. Submission: Submit the filled application form along with the required documents and pay the application fee.
  3. Correction Facility: Make necessary corrections during the correction window.
  4. Admit Card: Download the admit card after it is released.

Application Fee

The application fee varies based on the category of the candidate. It is typically around INR 500 for SC/ST and PwD candidates and INR 1000 for General & OBC male candidates.

Exam Pattern

  • Mode: The exam is conducted in a hybrid mode (Pen & Paper/CBT).
  • Structure: The exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) divided into three sections:
    • Section A: 30 questions (10 questions of 1 mark each and 20 questions of 2 marks each).
    • Section B: 10 questions of 2 marks each (Multiple Select Questions).
    • Section C: 20 questions (10 questions of 1 mark each and 10 questions of 2 marks each) (Numerical Answer Type).
  • Duration: The exam lasts for 3 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Negative Marking: Negative marking is applicable only for Section A. For each wrong answer in the 1 mark question, 1/3 marks will be deducted, and for 2 mark questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted3.
