The Directorate of School Education, Haryana, has declared a winter break for all private and government schools in the state from January 1 to January 15, 2025. This decision comes in response to the severe cold conditions sweeping across the region, with temperatures dropping significantly in several areas2. The capital city, Chandigarh, recorded a low of 7.3 degrees Celsius, while some areas saw temperatures plummet to nearly 4 degrees Celsius.
During this period, schools will remain closed, and students are expected to resume classes on January 16, 2025. However, students in board classes (10th and 12th) may still need to attend school for practical exams as per the schedule set by the CBSE and ICSE boards3. The Haryana Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the winter holidays for all private and government schools in the state through a post on social media.
The winter break aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff during the harsh winter conditions. The Directorate of School Education has urged parents and guardians to keep their children warm and take necessary precautions during this period.
