Delhi Government Launches ‘Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ with ₹1 Lakh Support for Girls

New Delhi, February 11, 2026 — The Delhi government has launched the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to provide long-term financial support for the education of girls from economically weaker families. The new programme will replace the Ladli Scheme from April 1, 2026, and expand benefits through a structured system of phased assistance.

The scheme promises up to ₹1 lakh in educational support linked to key milestones from birth to higher education.

Scheme Targets Continuous Educational Support

The government designed the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to ensure that financial hardship does not interrupt a girl’s education. Instead of one-time aid, families will receive phased payments at different stages of schooling, including early childhood, primary education, secondary education, and higher studies.

By the time a beneficiary completes graduation or a recognised diploma, the total amount will reach nearly ₹1 lakh, including interest.

Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana Replaces Ladli Scheme

The new programme replaces the Ladli Scheme, which the Delhi government introduced in 2008 to promote girls’ education and financial security. Officials found that many beneficiaries did not claim their maturity amounts due to procedural delays and lack of awareness.

The revamped scheme simplifies the process through digital registration, direct benefit transfers, and regular tracking of payments.

Eligibility and Coverage

Under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana:

  • The girl must be born in Delhi, and her family must meet residency and income criteria.
  • The scheme covers up to two daughters per family.
  • The government will transfer funds directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts to ensure transparency.

The programme will benefit thousands of girls from low-income households each year.

Online Portal for Easy Access

The Delhi government will launch a dedicated online portal to manage registrations and payment tracking. Parents will apply online and monitor each instalment without visiting government offices.

Officials expect the digital system to cut paperwork, reduce delays, and improve accountability.

Government’s Vision for Girls’ Empowerment

While announcing the scheme, the Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to gender equality and educational empowerment. The programme aims to encourage families to keep their daughters in school and support them through higher education.

The government believes the scheme will help lower dropout rates and strengthen financial independence among young women.

Smooth Transition from the Ladli Scheme

The Ladli Scheme will remain active until the end of March 2026. From April onward, all new registrations will move to the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. Authorities are clearing pending payments under the old scheme to ensure that existing beneficiaries do not face disruption.
