CBSE Practical Exam Guidelines 2025: Same-Day Marks Upload is Now Mandatory

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced stricter Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the conduct and evaluation of Class 10 and Class 12 practical examinations in 2025. With four full-fledged board examinations scheduled this academic year (two in February–March and two improvement exams later), the Board has emphasized transparency, timeliness, and zero tolerance for delays in practical mark submission.

Here are the key highlights of the new guidelines that every student, parent, and school must know:

1. Same-Day Upload of Practical Marks – Non-Negotiable

  • Practical examinations (including projects and internal assessments) must be completed as per the schedule communicated by CBSE.
  • Marks awarded to students have to be uploaded on the very same day the examination/activity is conducted.
  • No school can keep marks pending overnight or “upload in batches” later. The portal will lock automatically after the day ends.

This rule has been introduced to eliminate malpractices, inflated marking, and last-minute manipulations that were reported in previous years.

2. Stricter Timelines Because of Four Board Exams in 2025

  • Unlike previous years when schools had more flexibility after the main board exams, 2025 will see:
  • Main Board Exams (Feb–March 2025)
  • Supplementary/Improvement Exams (likely July 2025)
  • Two more rounds for certain categories
  • Practical marks of the main exams will be carried forward for supplementary attempts too. Any delay or discrepancy now will create complications later.
  • Hence, CBSE wants 100 % compliance before the main theory exams begin.

3. Role of External and Internal Examiners

  • External examiners appointed by CBSE must be present on the scheduled date.
  • Both internal and external examiners have to jointly finalize and sign the award list on the spot.
  • The signed award list must be photographed and uploaded along with digital entry of marks on the CBSE portal the same day.

4. Live Photographs and Geo-Tagging Made Compulsory Again

  • At least three live photographs (beginning, mid, and end of practical) with date, time, and geo-tag are mandatory.
  • Students’ faces must be clearly visible (no masks that hide identity).
  • These photographs will be cross-verified by CBSE during result processing.

5. Consequences of Non-Compliance

  • Delay in same-day upload → Marks will not be accepted → Students may get “Absent” or “Zero” in practicals.
  • Schools repeatedly failing to comply can face disaffiliation warnings or withholding of results.
  • Principals and examiners will be personally held accountable.

6. Advice for Students and Parents

  • Reach school well on time on your practical date – delays won’t be entertained.
  • Carry admit card and school ID – identity verification is strict.
  • Don’t believe rumours of “marks will be given later” – if your practical is happening, marks must go online the same day.
  • Keep checking the CBSE portal (cbse.gov.in or parinam.cbse.gov.in) after your practical; many schools display a notice once marks are uploaded.

7. Official CBSE Circular

The guidelines were released vide Circular No. CBSE/Coord/Practical/2024-25 dated 20 November 2024 (available on cbseacademic.nic.in). Schools have been directed to train teachers and complete mock upload drills before the practical season begins in January 2025.

Final Word

The message from CBSE is clear: practical examinations are an integral part of the board results (30–40 marks in Science and many skill subjects), and there will be no shortcuts or delays in 2025. Schools that followed relaxed practices earlier now have to fall in line.

Students, stay calm, prepare well, and attend your practicals on the given date – your marks will reflect genuine performance and will be online the same evening!

Best of luck for CBSE Board Exams 2025! 🚀
