New Delhi, January 24, 2025 – In a bid to ensure fair and transparent conduct of board examinations, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has rolled out new exam ethics guidelines for Class 10 and 12 exams. The guidelines aim to curb malpractices and promote a culture of integrity and honesty among students. With exams slated to begin on February 15, 2025, the notice has been circulated to all affiliated schools, urging strict adherence.
Key Points of the Notice
- Educating Students and Parents: Schools are mandated to conduct orientation sessions for both students and parents, explaining the importance of exam ethics. This involves disseminating information about the “Unfair Means Rules” and the ramifications of any breaches. Schools are also expected to foster a sense of responsibility and integrity among students.
- Prohibited Items: Students are strictly prohibited from carrying items such as mobile phones, electronic gadgets, textual material, and any other objects that can facilitate cheating. Permissible items include essential stationery, an analog watch, and a transparent water bottle. Schools must ensure students are well informed about these rules.
- New Penalties: The guidelines introduce stringent penalties under the Unfair Means Act. Any student found using electronic devices or spreading misinformation to disrupt the examination process will face severe consequences. Their current and next year’s exams across all subjects will be canceled, impacting their academic progression.
- Role of School Officials: School principals and heads bear the responsibility of briefing exam officials about their roles in maintaining the integrity of the examination process. They must also reiterate the importance of exam ethics to students on the day of the exam.
- CCTV Monitoring: In a move to enhance surveillance, all examination rooms are to be equipped with CCTV cameras. These cameras will be monitored in real-time by Assistant Superintendents to detect and prevent any unfair practices.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
The CBSE is also reaching out to community stakeholders to support the initiative. Workshops and seminars will be organized to educate teachers, parents, and students about the new guidelines. The board believes that a collaborative approach is essential to instill a culture of honesty and integrity.
Official Statement
In an official statement, a CBSE spokesperson said, “The integrity of the examination process is paramount. Our new guidelines aim to ensure a fair and transparent system where every student gets an equal opportunity to showcase their capabilities. We urge all schools, parents, and students to adhere to these guidelines strictly.”
Looking Forward
With these new measures in place, the CBSE aims to uphold the sanctity of the examination process. Schools are encouraged to take proactive steps to ensure that students are well-prepared and aware of the ethical standards expected of them.
