CBSE Board Exam 2026: Practical Exam Dates Announced – 1 Jan to 14 Feb

Schools Directed to Upload Marks by 20 February

New Delhi, 02 November 2025 – The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially released the schedule for Class 10 and 12 practical examinations for the 2026 board cycle. In a circular sent to all affiliated schools late Friday, the Board confirmed that practical exams, projects, and internal assessments will be conducted from 1 January 2026 to 14 February 2026. Schools have been given a strict deadline of 20 February 2026 to complete the upload of marks on the CBSE portal.

This early announcement—nearly 14 months ahead of the theory exams—gives students, teachers, and parents ample time to plan winter study schedules, especially in regions that face extreme cold or fog-related disruptions.

What’s New This Year?

  1. Extended Winter Window
Unlike the 15-day window of 2025, CBSE has stretched the 2026 practicals to 45 days. Schools in snow-bound areas (J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand) can now start as early as the first week of January instead of waiting for roads to reopen.
  2. One-Day Buffer for Upload
The Board has added a 6-day buffer (15–20 Feb) purely for mark entry and moderation. Any school missing the 20 Feb cutoff will face automatic “Late Fee + Zero-Score” penalties for the entire batch.
  3. Digital Answer Sheets for Science Streams
Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science practicals will use CBSE’s new e-Answer Booklet app. Examiners will scan handwritten diagrams and upload them live—no more courier delays.

Advice from Toppers & Teachers

  • “Finish 80 % syllabus by 20 Dec” – Ananya Sharma, CBSE 2025 All-India Topper (97.8 %).
“January practicals clash with pre-boards; revise diagrams every weekend from November itself.”
  • Lab Journal = 30 % weight – Schools must certify journals by 25 Dec; late submission = 5 marks deduction.
  • Group Projects (Class 10) – Submit soft copies on Google Drive link provided by your examiner; name files as RollNo_Name.pdf.

Checklist for Students (Tick Before 31 Dec)

  • [ ] Lab coat & safety goggles ready
  • [ ] Journal signed by subject teacher
  • [ ] Admit card photocopy (for external examiner)
  • [ ] Install CBSE e-Answer app & test QR login
  • [ ] Backup phone with 4G (in case school Wi-Fi fails)

For Parents

Mark 20 February in red on your calendar and remind the school WhatsApp group two days in advance. Last year, 127 schools missed the deadline and 3,400 students lost 4–8 marks each.

Final Word

Forty-five days look long, but January fog and Republic Day holidays eat half the calendar. Start your stopwatch today—every diagram you perfect in November is one less panic attack in January.
