CBSE Announces Major Changes to Board Exams for 2025

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced big changes to the board exam format for Classes 10 and 12. These changes will start in 2025 and aim to reduce academic pressure, promote critical thinking, and follow the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Key changes include:

  • Syllabus Reduction: The syllabus for both Class 10 and Class 12 has been cut by 15% to focus on core concepts.
  • Internal Assessment Weightage: Internal assessments, including projects, assignments, and tests, will now make up 40% of the final grade. The final board exams will account for the remaining 60%.
  • Competency-Based Questions: The exam format will include more questions designed to test students’ ability to apply knowledge in real-world situations.
  • Open Book Exam: For select subjects, an open book exam format will be tested. Students will be allowed to use their textbooks during the exam.
  • Digital Assessments: Answer sheets will be evaluated digitally to increase efficiency and transparency.
  • Attendance Requirement: Students must have a minimum attendance of 75% to take the board exams.
  • CCTV Cameras in Exam Halls: All CBSE exam centers must have CCTV cameras to ensure integrity.

These changes aim to enhance the learning experience and prepare students better for higher education and careers. The CBSE will monitor and refine these changes based on feedback.
