Patna, Bihar – August 31, 2025 – The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has officially confirmed that the 71st Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) Preliminary Exam 2025 will proceed as scheduled on September 13, 2025, dismissing widespread rumors of a postponement. The announcement comes as a relief to the 4.39 lakh candidates who have applied for the 1,298 vacancies across various administrative posts in Bihar.
In a press release shared on its official website and verified social media handle (@BPSCOffice) on August 30, 2025, the BPSC addressed concerns sparked by certain coaching institutes and social media accounts claiming the exam would be delayed. The commission labeled these claims as “unfounded and deceptive,” urging candidates to rely solely on official channels for updates. “Any announcements regarding exam postponements will be made solely through our official website, verified X account, or formal press releases,” the BPSC stated.
The 71st CCE Prelims, initially scheduled for September 10, 2025, was rescheduled to September 13 due to administrative reasons, as announced on July 4, 2025. The exam will be conducted in a single shift from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with candidates required to report 90 minutes early for verification and biometric attendance. The prelims consist of a single General Studies paper with 150 multiple-choice questions, carrying 150 marks, and includes a negative marking of 1/3 marks for incorrect answers.
The BPSC has confirmed that admit cards for the prelims will be available for download from the official websites, bpsc.bih.nic.in and bpsconline.bihar.gov.in, around 10 days prior to the exam, likely between August 30 and September 1, 2025. Candidates must bring a printed admit card and a valid photo ID (e.g., Aadhar Card or Voter ID) to the exam center.
The 71st CCE aims to fill 1,298 vacancies, an increase from the initially announced 1,250, with the addition of 14 Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) posts and 34 other positions. These vacancies include roles such as Sub-Division Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Commandant, and Assistant Director, among others. The selection process comprises three stages: Prelims, Mains, and Interview, with the Prelims serving as a qualifying exam. The final merit list will be based on performance in the Mains and Interview.
The BPSC has advised candidates to focus on their preparation and avoid misinformation. The prelims syllabus covers General Science, Current Events, History of India and Bihar, Geography, Indian Polity and Economy, and the Indian National Movement, with a special emphasis on Bihar’s socio-economic and political aspects. Candidates are encouraged to practice with previous years’ papers and adhere to the official syllabus available on the BPSC website.
The commission has also announced that the Mains exam is tentatively scheduled for December 2025 or January 2026, with specific dates to be confirmed after the Prelims results are declared. For further updates, candidates should regularly check the official BPSC website and avoid unverified sources.
