Launch MedTech Center of Excellence
In a landmark collaboration that promises to reshape the future of medical technology in India, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOA) has joined hands with L&T Technology Services Limited (LTTS) to establish a state-of-the-art MedTech Center of Excellence (CoE) on the SOA campus in Bhubaneswar.
Announced on November 20, 2025, this partnership brings together one of India’s fastest-growing NAAC A++ accredited universities and a global leader in engineering and R&D services to create an ecosystem dedicated to cutting-edge medical device innovation, advanced healthcare research, and next-generation medical education.
What is the MedTech CoE?
The MedTech Center of Excellence is designed as a multidisciplinary hub that integrates:
- Research & Development in medical devices and digital health solutions
- Prototype development and testing facilities with industry-grade equipment
- Industry-academia collaboration on real-world healthcare challenges
- Skill development programs for students, faculty, and working professionals
- Incubation support for MedTech startups
Equipped with advanced laboratories for biomedical instrumentation, AI-driven diagnostics, wearable health tech, and robotic surgery systems, the CoE aims to bridge the gap between academic research and market-ready medical technologies.
Why This Partnership Matters
India is emerging as one of the world’s most promising MedTech markets, yet the country still imports over 80% of its high-end medical devices. Initiatives like the MedTech CoE directly address this dependency by:
- Fostering Indigenous Innovation
Students and researchers will work on affordable, India-centric solutions — from low-cost ventilators and diagnostic tools to smart prosthetics and telemedicine platforms. - Creating a Talent Pipeline
The center introduces specialized training modules, certification programs, and live projects in collaboration with LTTS engineers, giving students hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and processes. - Accelerating Startup Growth
With mentorship from LTTS experts and access to prototyping facilities, budding MedTech entrepreneurs at SOA will be able to transform ideas into viable products faster than ever before. - Strengthening Healthcare Education
The CoE will integrate emerging technologies (AI, IoT, 3D printing, robotics) into the curriculum of SOA’s medical, engineering, and allied health sciences programs.
A Win-Win for Academia and Industry
Prof. (Dr.) Manojranjan Nayak, Founder & President of SOA, emphasized:
“This Center of Excellence is not just a facility — it is a vision to make SOA a global leader in health sciences innovation and contribute meaningfully to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission in healthcare.”
Mr. Amit Chadha, CEO & Managing Director of L&T Technology Services, added:
“By combining LTTS’ deep engineering expertise with SOA’s academic excellence and medical ecosystem, we are creating a powerful platform that will deliver impactful, patient-centric MedTech solutions.”
The Road Ahead
The MedTech CoE is expected to be fully operational by early 2026, with the first batch of industry-sponsored projects already in the pipeline. Plans include:
- Annual MedTech Innovation Challenges
- International conferences and hackathons
- Collaborative research with leading hospitals and global universities
- Patent filing and technology transfer support
A New Chapter for Indian MedTech
The SOA-LTTS MedTech Center of Excellence is more than an academic initiative — it’s a bold step toward building a self-reliant, innovation-driven healthcare ecosystem in India. For students, researchers, startups, and the nation’s healthcare system, the future just got a lot brighter.
Stay tuned for updates on inaugural events, student opportunities, and groundbreaking projects emerging from this exciting new hub.
Together, SOA University and L&T Technology Services are engineering a healthier tomorrow — one innovation at a time.
