SSN College of Engineering Wins the 2025 Global ESTEM Excellence Prize!

Great news for Indian education!
SSN College of Engineering (part of Shiv Nadar University, Chennai) has won the prestigious 2025 Global ESTEM Excellence Prize along with a cash award of US $25,000.

This international award celebrates colleges that make STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education innovative, inclusive, and environment-friendly. Only a few institutions worldwide are chosen each year — past winners include MIT, Stanford, and the National University of Singapore. SSN is now part of this elite group.

Why SSN Stood Out

The judges loved these initiatives:

  • Real-world projects for every student, right from the first year
  • Free STEM workshops for over 45,000 government and rural school children in Tamil Nadu through the “STEM for All” program
  • A compulsory course on Climate Change & Sustainable Engineering for all branches
  • Nearly 50% women students and generous scholarships for first-generation learners
  • Strong industry ties with companies like Google, Amazon, and Intel — leading to hundreds of patents and research papers by undergraduates every year

The $25,000 prize will help expand rural outreach and build a new Green Fabrication & Circular Economy Lab on campus.

What the SSN Family Says

Dr. Kala Vijayakumar, President, SSN Institutions:
“This award reflects the vision of our founder, Dr. Shiv Nadar — world-class education must create positive change in society.”

Prof. S. Salivahanan, Principal:
“We are proud to nurture engineers who will solve tomorrow’s biggest challenges.”

A final-year student who helped prepare the award entry added:
“It feels amazing to see an Indian college recognized on a global stage!”

A Proud Moment for India

SSN’s win shows that Indian institutions can lead the world in quality, equity, and sustainability — not just in numbers.

Heartiest congratulations to the students, faculty, alumni, and everyone at SSN!
